VLANs and Inter-VLAN Routing. πŸŒπŸ”Œ

### Lab: Implementing VLANs and Inter-VLAN Routing

#### Part 1: Build the Network and Configure Basic Device Settings 1. Set up your network topology with the following devices:

  1. Router (R1): Connect it to two switches (S1 and S2).
  2. Switches (S1 and S2): These will be our VLAN-enabled switches.
  3. PC-A and PC-B: Our trusty hosts.

2. Configure basic device settings such as IP addresses and hostnames.

#### Part 2: Create VLANs and Assign Switch Ports 1. Create the following VLANs on both switches:

  1. VLAN 10 (Management)
  2. VLAN 20 (Sales)
  3. VLAN 30 (Operations)
  4. VLAN 999 (Parking Lot)
  5. VLAN 1000 (Native)

2. Assign switch ports to the appropriate VLANs based on the table provided.

#### Part 3: Configure an 802.1Q Trunk between the Switches 1. Set up a trunk link between S1 and S2 using the 802.1Q protocol.

#### Part 4: Configure Inter-VLAN Routing on the Router 1. Configure subinterfaces on R1 for each VLAN. 2. Enable routing between these subinterfaces to allow communication between VLANs.

#### Part 5: Verify Inter-VLAN Routing is Working 1. Test connectivity between PC-A and PC-B across different VLANs. 2. Celebrate your successful implementation! πŸŽ‰

### Background / Scenario Modern networks use VLANs to enhance performance and security. VLANs divide large broadcast domains into smaller ones, making network design more efficient. Communication between VLANs requires a Layer 3 device, such as a router. In our lab, we'll create VLANs, configure trunk links, and enable Inter-VLAN Routing. Remember, routers-on-a-stick are our friends! πŸŒπŸ”—

*Note*: The routers used in this lab are Cisco 4221 with Cisco IOS XE Release 16.9.4, and the switches are Cisco Catalyst 2960s with Cisco IOS Release 15.2. Other models and versions can be used, but the commands and output may varyΒΉ.

Happy networking! πŸš€
