A Project Proposal submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of
Bachelor of Science in Information Technology
PIMSAT, Karachi
Executive Summary:
Today for the cost effectiveness in business everyone is looking towards the use and implementation of Information Technology. Each Business is looking towards better customer relationship for this purpose Customer Information System or Customer Inquiry Systems are used. Our aim for this project is to provide a one window operation
Project Title:
Customer Inquiry System
Here the title is Inquiry system and sometimes it talks about managing complaints.
Project Description:
Objective of the Project:
Sui Southern Gas Company Limited is running different software applications built on COBOL, dBase and RPG. All of them were developed in different span of time and gradually updated. But the main problem was that for inquiry purpose one often need to view information related to different departments for that he has to use different software. The objective of this web based Customer Inquiry System is to provide a one window operation, that will be accessible to different Customer Facilitation Center (CFC) in Karachi, the advantage of a web based application is that it does not need a dedicated network connection and does not required a powerful client machine because all the processing of data is done on server machine. Hence this software will provide integration between the different departments.
Working:
The system will focus on the inquiry related to CRD, Billing and Sales.
What exactly is CRD.
A database is to be designed that will be able to gather the information related to above fields.
A database cannot be designed to gather information. Data somehow needs to be placed into it. Also if you make two copies then who is responsible for authentication of data, replication, consistency, synchronization all the other problems related to having multiple copies ?
The major process related to the above departments is to be studies, like New Customer Registration, Bill payment, Complaints, Advices and Adjustments, Bill Printing and Related Reports.
If the systems already exist then they should not be redesigned just to use a newer technology. If a new system needs to be designed then it should consider the costs of development and integration with the old systems.
The system is to designed in such a way that it should interlink the above departments to have an easy access to the information.
Serious details are required here to explain easy access.
Oracle database is chosen as the database because it is robust and company has the license for it.
Sui Gas has spare copies of the licence lying around for projects not started. What a waste of money.
Two server class machines will be used to host the application, one for database server and other fro application server which will be the BEA Weblogic.
Hardware does not come for free and you have not provided any clear measurements of your requirements and how they were measured. Also if you need such machines who is going to approve the expenses. Also get this in writing for software and hardware to make the project feasible.
This software will have relatively a short life span because it will be used as an interim solution.
Then the project is not worth doing at all. What a waste of everyone's time. Anything that is not worth doing right is not worth doing at all.
This is something new. "Disposable software." The stupidest proposal for serious software I have ever seen.
Which will be ultimately replaced by more generalized ERP (Customer Care and Billing by SPL).
Why did you not propose the Ultimate replacement.
The rest can be ignored. Because they are designing a project which they intend to trash.
